Task
In the area of the eastern Kranichfelder Straße in Erfurt, the expansion of the location of the police stations and offices of the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs is planned. An efficient and safe connection must be ensured for the development of the property for incoming and outgoing traffic.
The two main junctions with traffic lights are located in the immediate vicinity of the property:
- Existing intersection Kranichfelder Straße/Am Schwemmbach/ Käthe-Kollwitz-Str. and
- Existing junction Kranichfelder Str./Samuel-Beck-Weg.
As part of a traffic engineering study, several connection variants were examined and evaluated using microscopic traffic flow simulations based on traffic-dependent signal programs.
The project was carried out jointly with verkehrplus VTVM GmbH from Erfurt.
Work steps
The following steps were implemented,
- Empirical recording of junction flows, including crossing pedestrians and cyclists,
- Implementation of traffic demand from the traffic model of the state capital Erfurt (VLE),
- Determination of future traffic volume,
- Development of variants,
- Creation of traffic-dependent signal controls,
- Traffic flow simulation of the analyzed variants.
Results
The result of the investigation is a recommended preferred solution, which is currently being implemented.
