Task
yverkehrsplanung GmbH has researched the testing and improvement of existing internationally applied methods and parameters for estimating traffic generation and mode choice on the basis of the Swiss Transport and Mobility Microcensus 2010.
Work steps
In the project, existing internationally used methods and parameters for estimating traffic generation were subjected to a critical review and statements on the specific strengths and weaknesses were derived from this.
Based on this, an easy-to-use tool was developed that can be used to determine the expected traffic volume and the choice of means of transport for different types of property depending on local conditions such as public transport accessibility class, population and workplace density, language area and other parameters. The data basis is the trip and stage data from the Swiss Mobility and Transport Microcensus, which was enriched with local parameters such as public transport accessibility class, population and workplace density, etc. via the spatial reference. The tool also shows combined trips such as B&R, P&R and K&R.
The project comprised the following steps:
- Research, narrowing down the task,
- Assessment and documentation of existing characteristic values,
- Assessment of existing procedures,
- Determination and improvement of modal split parameters,
- Procedural instructions based on fictitious case studies.
Results
The results were published in a PDF document in July 2018 by the Swiss Association of Traffic Engineers and Transport Experts (SVI). The publication focuses on
- an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of existing parameters and procedures,
- Development of a tool for the simple determination of trip generation and the mode choice.
