Task
As a member of the Alliance of Sustainable Universities, the University of Continuing Education Krems is interested in the ongoing development and optimization of sustainable mobility concepts. Against this background, yverkehrsplanung was commissioned to conduct an in-depth analysis of the mobility behavior of employees, students and external lecturers using an online-based mobility survey.
Work steps
The following key activities were performed in the course of project realization:
- Recording the transport status quo (e.g. accessibility of the university, existing mobility options) and future objectives (e.g. CO2 reduction, modal split shift to eco-mobility) in close coordination with the client’s wishes and framework conditions.
- Creation of questionnaire (e.g. definition and coding of questionnaire items, response categories, survey logic) and evaluation design as well as selection of suitable recruitment strategies.
- Creation, testing and implementation of varying online mobility surveys for the target groups of employees, students and external lecturers.
- Data preparation – plausibility checks, data cleansing and weighting of raw data.
- Data analysis – application of descriptive and inferential statistical methods.
- Preparation of results – documentation of results in the form of a report and a PowerPoint presentation.
Results
In addition to mapping current mobility behaviour (e.g. modal split, CO2 emissions), the client was particularly interested in identifying future optimization and savings potential through tailor-made measures. In particular, the following results are available:
- Values for modal split based on distance and transport performance for different target groups (students, employees, external lecturers) and travel purposes (commuting, education and business trips).
- Current CO2 consumption and estimation of potential savings due to university specifics (e.g. increased online meetings, business travel regulations, car sharing offer).
- Current and future potential assessment of individual mobility services including optimization proposals.
- Overview of current funding opportunities at federal, state and municipal/city level.
- Recommendations for action, which are intended to initiate ideas and decisions for future-oriented further developments at Campus Krems.
